Success!!!! Sorry to get back to you so late. I had a trip to Las Vegas (that's why I needed Air so bad). I had Air the whole time with no problems, after a couple days everything worked perfectly. I think the ribbon cable from #7 may have been the problem. When I loosened it the first time I accidently broke off one side of the clip. So I thought it might be the culprit. Thank you very much for you awesome instructions!

Outstanding!!! Have been dealing with this issue for a year or so on my '01 Highlander. Instructions were spot on! Went to radio shack and picked up what I needed to fix it. I ended up splitting (cutting the ribbon only) the wires to make it easier to solder (make sure you do not remove any insulation from the wires). Works great!!! THANKS!!!

Dane. That was an excellent post. The directions were spot on! Only one of the wires had broke but that was enough. Thanks for saving us $1200+. This is major karma points! For reference, I removed the broken ribbon cable and replaced it with 3 longer pieces of 22 gauge enameled wire. I used a utility knife to scrape both ends to remove the (invisible) enamel to ensure good contact. I then attached each wire to the switch first and then to the circuit board. I used a15 watt soldering iron, and 0.022" solder. I would probably use a little larger diameter if there is a next time. I purchased everything from radio shack. I haven't soldered in over 16 years so I was a little worried about the joints. I recommend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_NU2ruzyc4&fe.... Needless to say I was very pleased when I put everything back in, started the car, and felt the sweet cool air! Thanks again!

Dane, Thanks so much for the detailed instructions. Happy to say this worked like a champ on my 2001 Highlander. I did all the work myself except for the actual soldering. I found a local Vacuum Cleaner repair shop that did it for $15, and he just happened to have a spare (longer) piece of the same ribbon wire. The Toyota Dealership of course told me that they wouldn't have done the solder, but they'd replace the whole assembly for $700, and that's just for the part. And you know how much these dealers charge for labor. You've made my summer!

Dan I really appreciate the offer and the kind words. I don't expect or hold anyone to donate anything but if you still want to I'd love to see others donate to the MDA. As someone who has suffered from one of the types of MD's my whole life and has seen all that the MDA does I would be grateful to any donation one can give. I would be very grateful of anyone wishing to help me reach my goal of $1000 for this years telethon. You can donate here: https://www.joinmda.org/lafayettela2010beastar/da... or through your local MDA. Thanks again!
